My musings…

November!

So I went back to Harris Teeter for another trip and got another bunch of stuff for less than $10. I think I have about a dozen or more cans of soup that I can use for a quick lunch at work if for some reason we don’t cook dinner the night before. I ❤ sales!

Last weekend I was in Mexico again for work. We were in Guadalajara. Flying in was really cool. We flew across the Sierra Madre Oriental mountain range which was incredibly beautiful. We also flew across the Sonora Desert which was also pretty interesting to see.

While in Guadalajara, we did a workshop for a group called RedLAC – a group of Environmental Funds in Latin America, but also working to expand to Africa. It was a basic introduction to the work that we do. It was great.

When the workshop ended on Sunday, I went with a group of Brazilians to explore the historical area of Guadalajara. It was beautiful. There were a lot of people walking around. I imagine that it is like that every Sunday. We also visited the Cabanas Cultural Institute. The building at one point in time was an orphanage that housed over 3,000 kids!

The interesting thing about the building was that Jose Clemente Orozco, one of Mexico’s most famous painters, painted the ceiling. The paintings are pretty dark, but they have some powerful political themes as well.

At the same time we were there, there was also a traditional dance competition. There were a lot of boys and girls dressed in traditional dresses and outfits dancing around which was very cool. It is fun to see these traditions carry on!

Now I’m back in DC looking forward to Thanksgiving with my family next week and a big trip in December!!!
